Whiskey Myers Newark Concert reviews
Sound mix was bad
I have attended several Doobie Brothers shows over the years and they have usually been great. This one, however, was an absolute mess. Milwaukee was just not good, with the sound mix being awful. The bass, drums, percussion, and Bill Payne's keyboards overpowered the guitars and vocals, leading to instances of feedback squeal.
Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston changing guitars between songs seemed challenging for their guitar techs and sounds guys, with switches often not being made into the soundboard. Even Tom Johnston had to stop an intro into a song due to technical issues. The show lacked energy in the first 2/3, although the setlist was interesting with a mix of old songs, new releases, and classic hits.
The venue, BMO Harris Pavilion at Summerfest, was understaffed, leading to long lines for entry and concessions. It took 45 minutes to get two beers due to slow service. While I understand the challenges of the post-pandemic era, making paying customers wait in lines is not the solution.
In conclusion, this show was disappointing.
